If your game is not working correctly, I apologize. I'm working on implementing Innovation expansions and I made a bad change to the database and some games are unrecoverable. I hope you can understand! This should affect any future games.

Currently happening in game 213431684, which is still going. After refreshing failed to fix it, I wondered if someone was making changes to the code, because this has been a pretty stable (albeit resource-intensive) game for a long while.

I have the same problem (icons displaying incorrectly) in game 213235072.
The bug occurred when I used Classification. I took two cards from my opponent, but when I tried to meld them, I received an error: "Unexpected Error. Error occurred while processing data request. 6S9 02/22 23:49:51"
Eventually, the error went away and I was able to meld the cards. However, that is when the icon count began to display incorrectly. I have not taken any more moves since then, since icons are critical.
This is a tournament game.

Hmm, also happening on table 213464137. The icon counts /were/ correct, up until I melded a card, after which everything zero-ed out my tableau. (I had Agriculture as my only card down, but melding Clothing killed my icon count.)

My opponent's icon count is currently correct (he only has The Wheel in play), but I suspect that any new meld will kill his count, too.

I would specify the move # here, too, except the game is literally showing that it's "Move #1", which is totally not correct: I had my first half-turn, then he and I have taken a full turn each.

Continued to play boardgamearena.com/9/innovation?table=213602713 and icon counts seem to be consistent with what they'd be if a blank card was on top of every stack (unsplayed contribute no icons, splayed contribute only splay-visible icons)

Icon counts are also incorrect on table 212727391, in which my opponent just melded Physics, but his count isn't zero across the board, strangely, but is 1-0-1-3-0-0.

This game is a little bit more advanced, though, and he has his purple cards splayed left. And I notice that the icons that the game /is/ counting correspond exactly to the icons that are visible in the splayed /column/ of his purple stack.

What do I mean by "column"? I mean all the icons that would be visible in a left splay—including the one icon on the top card /in the position that would be visible if there were another card on top of that top card/—but not including the other icons on the top card.

In table #213615972, my opponent attempted to dogma "Domestication". He has 5 castle icons, and I only have 1. However, in the count of icons, he is credited with zero instead of 5. Therefore, the game is telling me to follow the dogma effect even though I should not be eligible for it. No way to continue while following the rules.

Following up on my immediately preceding analysis of table 212727391, I took two actions: meld Astronomy and achieve 5. My icon counts are now only reflecting the "splayed column" of my yellow stack (my only splayed colour), which is splayed right.

So at least this behaviour appears to be consistent.

I /really/ hope that these counts are merely for players' benefit and not what the game is /actually/ using to calculate dogma effects.

On a random turn it started counting my icons incorrectly. It counts the opponents icons properly.

In our case, when mattyadams used optics (move #55) at 9:07 it had the correct icon count for both of us (Matty 7; Sleevs 4) and Sleevs did not share (correctly, Matty had more crowns). When Matty then used optics again (move #56) at 9:12 it said Matty had zero crowns (which is not possible because at the least Matty had to have had optics showing in order to use it, which has three crowns, plus he had two other crowns showing in addition to optics for a total of 5) but it still had the correct crown count for Sleevs (4). Because the icon count incorrectly showed 0 crowns for Matty, optics was shared (0-4) even though it should not have been shared because the correct count was 5-4.

The following turn Sleevs melded Paper (move #57), making the bulb count Sleevs 5 to Matty's 2. So when Sleevs then used paper (move #58) it should not have been shared, but because the game is apparently going by the all-zeroes icon count (even though the images are correct and clearly show the 5-2 bulb count) it was shared because the game thought the bulb count was 0-0 (which, again, is impossible because if paper is used that means at least the two bulbs on the paper card are showing).

So the rules have not been followed twice now, having a significant material impact on the game both times, because the icon count inexplicably went to zero resulting in dogma sharing where there should have been no sharing.

I do not have an F5 key, and reloading the page did not resolve the problem -- icons count is still all zeroes for both players, even though the board clearly shows that many icons are visible and should be showing up in the icon counts.

We have played literally HUNDREDS of games of Innovation on BGA since 2018 and this is the first time we have ever seen anything like this.

Please fix soonest! We will not continue the game until the correct icon count is restored. So you can go ahead and view the game at boardgamearena.com/9/innovation?table=213364629 and read the game log there. Thank you.

Thanks for all of these reports. I am working hard at trying to fix the state of your games. I just pushed another fix which is supposed to refresh the icon counts manually, however, when I open boardgamearena.com/9/innovation?table=213364629 as a spectator, the counts still say 0 so I am not confident that it actually worked. If it did, please tell me! Otherwise I will continue trying to find a solution.

We had the same issue. It not only wasn't showing up correctly it was actually affecting game play. So we abandoned the game. Tried refreshing a bunch but it didn't work maybe it was before the last fix was pushed.

We have an issue in game #213218828 in which my opponent used Machine Tools — with him having 5 icons and me having 2 — but the readout in the right-hand column says that we both have 1 icon, so I scored a 7 when I should have scored nothing. My opponent did draw a card as a sharing bonus, but nothing should have been shared.

Hi Henry, unfortunately there is no way for me to rectify actions that have already happened in the game. The best I could do was to restore the icon counts so that future actions are executed correctly. I hope that you can understand!

I'm going to go ahead and mark this as fixed since things are as restored as it is possible for me to do. I apologize for this disruption, and I hope that the news that expansions are being actively worked on will soften the blow.
