I've noticed that when the system calculates ELO ratings at the end of a game, I sometimes lose a few (or often less than one) points for tying with my partner. According to what I read, this appears to be because my partner has a lower ELO score than me and the system seems to think that I should therefore either finish the game with a higher score than my partner or else I will lose points. For example, in the last game I played, my ELO was about 165 before I started the game and my partner's was about 157. It indicates that because I tied with my partner, I then lost -0.15 points. The problem, of course, is that I can not possibly NOT tie with my partner, as we play as a team in Euchre. When I score points, they score points, and vice versa. I personally think it's kind of strange that all the players are calculated separately at all. For example, we won the game I mentioned earlier but I earned points separately for beating each individual opponent (and lost -0.15 for tying my partner). But, of course, the partners on the other team are playing together too, and they both collect points together. Would it make more sense to average out the two teammates scores and then calculate one team against the other team, instead of all as individuals?
Ultimately, in theory, if my partner has a lower ELO score than me than I am essentially teamed up with someone below my skill level and therefore this would make it even harder for me to win the game. This certainly does not sound to me like a situation where someone should lose points if they win the game. Thanks for everything, love this site :) -
