Ahoy! Sharpen your wits, steady your nerves, and get ready to bluff, bid, and battle on the high seas, because Skull King, the swashbuckling trick-taking classic, has just arrived on Board Game Arena!
If you enjoy games like Oh Hell!, Wizard, Euchre, or Spades, you will feel right at home. But Skull King is not just another trick-taker, it is a tense, tactical duel of risk and timing where predicting your own success is just as important as outplaying your rivals.
Each round begins with players secretly and simultaneously declaring how many tricks they think they will win. Will you boldly promise victory, or cautiously aim for none at all?
Once bids are revealed, the real challenge begins: you must win exactly what you promised. Too many tricks? You are punished. Too few? Same fate. Suddenly, losing a trick can be just as thrilling as capturing one!
This simultaneous bidding keeps the table on edge (some rounds are overbid, others underbid, and every hand carries the promise of wild swings in fortune).
The game’s 66-card deck is far from ordinary:
- Four suits (1–13) for classic trick-taking play.
- Pirates, the Tigress, and the dreaded Skull King, each bringing special powers that can upend the strongest hand.
- Mermaids, who can tame the Skull King himself.
- Escape cards, letting you bow out of danger.
Black Jolly Roger cards trump all numbered suits, Pirates trump Mermaids, and the Skull King trumps everything (except when a clever Mermaid takes him down. Add in the versatile Tigress and the unpredictability of simultaneous bidding, and no two games ever feel the same).
Nail your bid and score 20 points per trick.
Miss it, and lose 10 points per trick you are off.
Bid zero successfully, and earn a jackpot of 10 × the round number points — but fail, and you will sink just as quickly.
Bonus points are awarded for daring feats like capturing Pirates with the Skull King, or the King with a Mermaid.
After ten rounds of rising tension and escalating stakes, the pirate with the most points claims ultimate glory.
Whether you are a trick-taking veteran or just dipping your toes into the genre, Skull King offers fast-paced, laugh-out-loud fun full of bold plays and crushing blunders.

A total of 111,148 members of Board Game Arena clicked at least ONCE on the calendar on the front page.
15,004 were able to complete a 10 days streak,
8,242 were able to click for 20 days in a row to get the related trophy,
and finally, 4,681 of you went were brave enough to come on the front page every day for 31 days to get all of the trophies from the event. It means now that they own a very unique piece of BGA History.

Ehi! Affina il tuo ingegno, calma i nervi e preparati a bluffare, fare offerte e combattere in alto mare, perché Skull King, il classico gioco di carte spericolate, è appena arrivato su ** Board Game Arena **!
Se ti piacciono giochi come Oh Hell!, Wizard, Euchre o Spades, ti sentirai subito a casa. Ma Skull King non è solo un altro gioco di carte, è un duello teso e tattico di rischio e tempismo in cui prevedere il proprio successo è importante tanto quanto sbaragliare gli avversari.
Ogni round inizia con i giocatori che dichiarano segretamente e simultaneamente quante prese pensano di vincere. Prometterai coraggiosamente la vittoria o punterai prudentemente a non farne nessuna? Una volta rivelate le offerte, inizia la vera sfida: devi vincere esattamente ciò che hai promesso. Troppe prese? Verrai punito. Troppe poche? Stessa sorte. Improvvisamente, perdere una presa può essere emozionante quanto conquistarne una!
Questa offerta simultanea mantiene il tavolo in bilico (alcuni round sono troppo alti, altri troppo bassi, e ogni mano promette forti oscillazioni della fortuna).
Il mazzo di 66 carte del gioco è tutt'altro che ordinario:
- Quattro semi (1–13) per il classico gioco di prese.
- Pirati, la Tigre e il temuto Re Teschio, ognuno dotato di poteri speciali in grado di sovvertire la mano più forte.
- Sirene, che possono domare personalmente il Re Teschio.
- Carte Fuga, che ti permettono di uscire dal pericolo.
Le carte Jolly Roger nere battono tutti i semi numerati, i Pirati battono le Sirene e il Re Teschio batte tutto (tranne quando un'astuta Sirena lo sconfigge. Aggiungete la versatile Tigre e l'imprevedibilità delle offerte simultanee, e non ci saranno mai due partite uguali).
Completa la tua offerta e totalizza 20 punti per ogni presa.
Se lo sbagli, perdi 10 punti per ogni presa sbagliata.
Se punti zero con successo, vinci un jackpot di 10 × il round in corso punti, ma se sbagli, affonderai altrettanto rapidamente.
Vengono assegnati punti bonus per imprese audaci come la cattura dei pirati con il Re Teschio o del Re con una Sirena.
Dopo dieci round di tensione crescente e puntate sempre più alte, il pirata con il punteggio più alto si aggiudica la gloria finale.
